School Day

Regular attendance at school promotes pupils’ well-being and gives them the best chance of learning and reaching their potential. Parents are required to ensure that children of compulsory school age receive full-time education. This is a requirement of the Education Act 1944. Pupils should attend school every day the school is open unless the reason for the absence is unavoidable.

If your child attends nursery it is important you bring them on time and every day. This helps them form good attendance habits once they start school. Every session counts!

You are requested not to take your child on holiday during school time as it prevents them accessing the school curriculum. If you want to take your child out of school in exceptional circumstances then you must gain permission from school before you go. You need an application form from the school office.

Our Attendance Officer is Miss Thackeray.

Every Day Matters. Don’t Be Late For The Gate!

Nursery sessions are 8.30 – 11.30 and 12.15 – 3.15

The school day for Reception (F2) and Key Stage 1 is 8.40 – 3.10

The school day for Key Stage 2 is 8.40 – 3.15

Regular attendance = Increased attainment

Research shows a direct link between high attendance and doing well at school.

100% attendance = 0 days absent = best chance of success

95% attendance = 10 days absent = 2 weeks absent = still a good chance of success

90% attendance = 19 days absent = 3 weeks 4 days absent = worrying: less chance of success

85% attendance = 29 days absent = half a term! = worrying: makes it harder to catch up and progress

80% attendance = 38 days absent = 7 weeks 4 days absent = serious concern: least chance of success = court action

75% attendance = 47 days absent = serious concern = court action

Children with over 90% attendance at school are more likely to gain five or more A to C grade GCSEs or equivalent qualifications.

Did you know?

  • Arriving 5 minutes late every day adds up to over 3 days lost each school year.
  • Arriving 15 minutes late every day is the same as being absent for 2 weeks each school year.
  • Arriving 30 minutes late every day is the same as being absent for 19 days each school year

If you have difficulties getting your child to school please come and speak with our Attendance Officer, Miss Thackeray, who can help you.
